Meet Brian Emert.
Brian is a great guy — unassuming, kind and a regular at our group and trail runs hosted at the Carlisle store. We’ve really enjoyed getting to know him and his very generous heart.
This year, he decided to join the fight to find a cure for cancer by participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team in Training Program. He’ll be running the Marine Corps Marathon in October to help raise crucial funding for cancer research.
But this isn’t just another “fun run” for Brian. It’s personal.
His father-in-law, Paul Tatum, passed away from Non-Hodgkin’s disease in 2015 and he has seen the pain that this loss has caused for his wife and her family.
And he decided to do something about it. He wanted to make a difference.
That decision “to do something” then gave him an idea for how to use his love of running to make a difference.
He created the 100 Mile Relay Trail Run for LLS.
This Trail Run Relay started in Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia and followed the Appalachian Trail over rivers, through the woods, up and down mountains and finally back to Carlisle, PA — covering 100 miles!
And, the really cool part? Brian enlisted his trail running buddies to help — giving each of them the wonderful opportunity to make a difference, too!
It was a grueling endeavor — but loads of sweaty, muddy fun for everyone!
Brian is still working towards his goal of raising $3,500.00 for cancer research and if you’d like to be a part of that, you can donate at his fundraising page: http://pages.teamintraining.org/cpa/corps17/BEmert
How about YOU? Are YOU a Difference Maker, too? Do you know someone who is? (I bet you do!)
